A Time of Love and Fruitfulness

In Isaiah 5:1 it says, “I will sing for the one I love, a song about His vineyard; my loved one had a vineyard on a fertile hillside, he dug it up and cleared it of stones and planted it with the choicest vines.”

God presents Himself to Israel as the owner of a vineyard. This vineyard is very precious to Him. He plants it on a fertile hill, and He tends it with great care. He makes sure that He clears the ground of all rubble before He plants the vines. The vineyard is not just any vineyard, it belongs to Him. In the above passage, He refers to Israel as His own vineyard.

In the New Testament, when He sent Jesus into the world, He sent the true vine. We are the branches, and He cultivates us for love and fruitfulness.

There may be many different vines, but there is only one true vine in God’s economy, His true Son, Jesus Christ. When Jesus spoke to His disciples in John 15:1-4, He told them that He is the true vine, and His Father is the vinedresser.
If you have come into a relationship with Jesus by grace through faith, you are part of the vineyard. You are a branch growing from the vine, carefully cultivated, pruned, and nurtured by the vinedresser. You were planted to grow and bear fruit.

The aim of the Father as the vinedresser is that we are fruitful, He cuts off every branch that bears is not fruit bearing, while every branch that does bear fruit, is pruned so that it will be even more fruitful. No branch can bear fruit by itself, it must remain in the vine. Neither can we bear fruit unless we remain in Him, and He remains in us.

We sometimes lose sight of God’s loving purposes in the busyness of our lives, and this causes us to be unfruitful. He wants us to bear the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Those who belong to Jesus have crucified the flesh.

In our hearts, we need to let everything go but Him. He already knows whether we are authentic in our devotion. If we love Jesus, we will obey Him and bring forth fruit, because our lives are His.

In this year 2022, we need to surrender all to God’s purposes, as sons and daughters so that we will bring forth fruit that will remain and bring glory to His name.
