Matthew 5:14 ”You are the light of the world.
A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
In these dark times, this is the message we need to proclaim from the rooftops is: “Christ is the Light of the world!” God is light, and Christ is the image of the invisible God.
The coming of Christ was prophesied as the Light, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; upon those who dwell in the land of gloom, a light has shone” (Isaiah 9:1).
On that first Christmas night, the light shined in the darkness, the glory of the Lord shone, the darkness did not overcome it and it enlightens everyone. “In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.” That Light pierces the darkness.
Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world, whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). When we choose to follow Jesus, we never need to walk in darkness again.
Apart from Jesus, we live in darkness. And have limited capacity to understand who we are or what we see in the world. 2 Corinthians 4:6: “For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness, has made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.”
Lighthouses serve to warn mariners of dangerous shallows and perilous rocky coasts, and they help guide vessels safely into and out of harbours.
We are messengers of that Light, as Jesus calls us in Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
We are called to be light bearers as in Philippians 2:15 “so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world”.
Let us see 2022 in His light, time to shine!
